# SRC: Estate agency rent surveys (Eurostat, 2003-2019)

* Every year, the EU carries out a survey among real estate agents about rent prices in European capitals and a few additional cities as part of work to determine the salaries of its international officials:
  * The "(r)eal estate agents are asked to provide the monthly rent for various types of accommodation, excluding charges and utilities, for an unfurnished property. The quality of the accommodation should be good to very good, but not luxurious".
* Taking that caveat into consideration, that the housing surveyed "should be good to very good", and therefore not very representative of how most people actually live, these surveys can provide a useful snapshot of the differences and the evolution of rent prices across European cities over time.
